 Best Garden Award 2024

Think you know who has the best garden in Broken Hill?

Here was the judge's choice for the Landcare Broken Hill 2024 Best Garden Award...

Best Garden Award – We’re looking for established gardens with that special something, that also embodies sustainability and innovation.

Criteria
  • Clever choice of plant varieties that thrive in our specific environment (Arid zone) incorporating the use of plant species from this region.
  • Innovative ideas and methods for successfully growing plants and trees in our harsh environment - for example, water saving strategies like mulching and composting to maximise water efficiency.
  • Best overall garden concept design and execution.

CONGRATULATIONS to Helen Murray of Umberumberka Cresent, Silverton!

Picture
“After 25 years, this garden has become an inspiration to many people who visit. It is all about getting people in the garden, showing you can have a garden in any environment if you work with Mother Nature. This garden is a cottage meets bush oasis, filled with water features, habitat and food plants for insects, birds, lizards, frogs, bats etc. It has evolved into rooms, each with its own micro-climate supporting different plant life and wildlife, whilst protecting the house from heat and the elements and just being an enjoyable space. The photos don't do it justice.”
